Okay. I apologize. I’m about to write about something you have heard about over and over again the past two weeks.

I enjoyed much of Michael Jackson’s music.

That said you need to understand. I did not spend thousands of dollars to travel to his memorial service. I did not hold a candlelight vigil on the sidewalk near his star.

The only thing I did do when I heard he died was to listen to a few of his songs. I also went on YouTube to find out how the moonwalk is really done.

I even tried to do the moonwalk after watching the lesson. All I can say about that is my right leg is still angry about the attempt.

This brings me to my point. I enjoyed his music and thought he was a good dancer.

That is it. End of story.

When I was young, I often did not even know what the musician looked like as I listened to music. Ed Sullivan and American Bandstand changed that.

That was enough. I could enjoy the music. I could even enjoy watching the musician perform. Again that should be the end of the story.

As time passed though someone, somewhere decided I needed to know more.

They decided I needed to know the personal life of the musician. I needed to know what pills they took and what parties they attended. I needed to know what children they had fathered or mothered and if they were speaking to their relatives.

I didn’t really care. I just wanted to know if I liked the music or not. End of story.

There is one thing we can’t say. Farewell Michael, I never knew you.”

In Michael’s case it seems they want to make sure we knew him and every detail about him.

All I know is I will always enjoy the version of the song “Smile, Though Your Heart is Breaking,” by Michael Jackson.
