1959 Chevrolet Corvette Conv.    LIMA -- Consumer Reports magazine names the Corvette as one of the ten most influential cars of the past fifty years. It's interesting to note that the Corvette is the only General Motors vehicle on this list. The Chevrolet Corvette made its debut in 1953 as America's entry into the sports car market that was dominated by European makes. In 1959 and 1960, the Corvette was still in its formative stages, but its style was becoming well established. The sweeps and curves designer Harley Earl had given it were still present, plus it had the engineering influence of Russian Zora Arkus Duntov. The 1959/60 models represented the pinnacle of the first generation Corvette era. Jay Leno, famous for his car collections, owns a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette. It's interesting to note that one of the main characters in the movie "Animal House", Bluto who was played by John Belushi, owned a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette.    Phil Steiner, of Lima, brought his 1959 Chevrolet Corvette to The Lima News' Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 46 years. It includes a fuel injection 283-290 h.p., four speed transmission. He has both the hard top and the convertible top. Steiner says his best memory of this classic is going to car shows and meeting all the nice people and looking at all their nice cars.      Please note author is: Merri Hanjora, The Lima News
