William G. Griffin

William G. Griffin, 82, died at 5:25 p.m. April 28, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Lima to Dean Wagner and Laurine Estelle North Griffin, who preceded him in death. On June 18, 1946, he married Betty J. Clark, who survives in Elida.
Mr. Griffin was co-owner of Dean Griffin & Sons Furniture Store, for 44 years. He also worked at Tamarac Golf Club for 17 years, where he was a member for 35 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 1275 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, both in Lima. He was an Army veteran serving from March 23, 1944, to May 2, 1946. He had six holes-in-one during his golfing career. It gave him great pleasure to give golfing tips to young players and friends to help them improve their play.
Survivors also include a son, William B. (Lynn) Griffin, of Lima; a daughter, Kimberly L. (Dwayne) LaRue, of Cloverdale; three grandchildren, Eric (Ammy) Griffin, of Lima, Colleen (Keith) Wurster, of North Carolina, and Travis Brown, stationed in Kuwait; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Griffin, Nathan Griffin, Zane Wurster and Jason Deal; a brother, Robert Dean (Juanita) Griffin, of Findlay; and his faithful dog, Peanut.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Griffin; and a brother, Richard Eugene Griffin.
Memorial services will begin at 7 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Deacon Eli Pina will officiate.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.
