Shirley Ann Carter, 72, died at 1:53 a.m. April 28, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Alger to Burley and Rosie Oliver Collins, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 10, 1955, she married John A. Carter, who survives in Lima.
Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and helped her husband in his business. She attended First Assembly of God and Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, American Legion Post 96 Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Auxiliary. She loved to attend her grandchildren's sports activities and school functions.
Survivors also include two daughters, Melinda (Raymond) Burden and Cheryl (Marc) Bader, both of Elida; a brother, Elmer (Erma) Collins, of Lima; two sisters, Nellie Fraley, of Lima, and Mamie (Jack) Hanthorn, of Middle Point; and four grandchildren, Jaime (Chad) Best, Matthew Burden, Amanda Bader and Megan Bader, all of Lima.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sibble Taylor and Frances Gay; and six brothers, Charles, Roy, Russell, Gene, Donnie and Richard Collins.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. today at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Eastside Chapel. Pastor Randy Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
