An unusual swimsuit from an unusual location
Comments 0 | Recommend 0There is a swimsuit I have worn once.
I really doubt if I will wear it again.
I bought it under unusual circumstances in an unusual location.
My cousin and I had planned a overnight stay in Indiana.
We were going to stay at a hotel in Shipshewana, do some flea market shopping and relax.
The problem was after the reservations were made I caught a cold. I should have stayed at home, but figured I could just take it easy.
Upon our arrival at the hotel we discovered it not only had a swimming pool, but also had a hot tub.
When you have a cold and ache all over, nothing looks more inviting than relaxing in a hot tub. That’s when I discovered I had forgotten my swimsuit.
No problem, my cousin told me. We can buy one at a local store.
It was a problem. In Shipshewana there are no major department stores. This is Amish country and many of the stores are supplied with items for the Amish.
I had visions of old-fashioned bloomers and puffy sleeves as the swimsuit I would find.
In a general store with clothes I found swimsuits. Fortunately they were not bloomers and puffy sleeves, but they were more modest than the usual selection in general department stores.
I finally found a suit that was acceptable. Acceptable means it had a black lace that goes up around the neck, a skirt that was longer than skirts I wore as a teenager to school and the color….it is black.
I wore it to the hot tub and enjoyed relaxing there. Now when I look at it I laugh. I guess you could say it is my Amish swimsuit. I may pack it on a return trip to Indiana, but doubt if I will wear it elsewhere. The style is well…unusual.
Now I always pack my swimsuit. My BLUE swimsuit.
