Wayne Trace boys missing coverage
Comments 0 | Recommend 0JERRY HOHLBEIN, OttovilleThe Lima News Sports section leaves a lot to be desired. In Saturday’s edition, the sports writers made no mention of Haviland Wayne Trace High School winning the regional finals of boys Division IV. Although the school is located in Paulding County, there are many sports fans who enjoy reading the success of area teams’ sporting events. This is not a bias issue, as Wayne Trace defeated our local high school boys team during the season play, as well as eliminating it from tournament action. What also deserves mention is that the Raiders’ coach, Al Welch, has coached 33 years at Wayne Trace. He previously announced his retirement following this month’s state tournament. This combination is reason enough for a box score or at least one line saying the score of the game. EDITOR’S NOTE: The Lima News does not circulate into Paulding County. A story about Kalida facing Wayne Trace did mention Welch’s long career, as did one involving New Knoxville.
