Friday's prep roundup

SPENCERVILLE — There was one more chance for Spencerville to post a win in 2009. Unfortunately for the Bearcats, rival Delphos Jefferson was standing in the way.

Jefferson scored twice in the second half to open up a halftime tie and take a 28-14 win in Friday football action. The Bearcats finish the season 0-10 and 0-8 in the Northwest Conference.

Mitchell Antalis returned an interception 36 yards in the third quarter to break the tie, and Curtis Miller ran in from 35 yards out in the fourth. Miller had 92 yards for the Wildcats (6-4, 5-3).

Jefferson quarterback Jordan Jettinghoff threw two first-half TDs, to Andrew Wiltsie and Craig Carder.

Spencerville quarterback Tyler Dietering completed a TD pass to Dan Binkley and had a 2-yard TD rush.

Delphos St. John’s 62, Fort Recovery 0

DELPHOS — Delphos St. John’s (10-0, 8-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) capped their undefeated season with another one-sided win.

St. John’s had 359 total yards — 330 on the ground — while holding Fort Recovery to 59. Blake Williams carried the ball 14 times for 105 yards and three touchdowns and Jordan Leininger had 14 carries for 89 yards and two scores.

The Jays had only one penalty and punted just once.

Toledo Millbury Lake 10, Allen East 6

TOLEDO — Allen East (3-7, 3-5 Northwest Conference) only managed 183 yards of total offense in the non-conference matchup. Aaron Swaney went 7-for-24 for 98 yards and a fourth-quarter touchown pass to Sean Anderson.

Riverside 28, Perry 16

DE GRAFF — Riverside (6-4, 5-2 Northwest Central Conference) got off to an early start, scoring all of their points in the first half against Perry (4-6, 3-4).

Perry’s John Turner led the Commodores with 26 carries for 157 yards and a 3-yard touchdown.

Tyler Cornwell had 77 passing yards on a 4-for-12 effort for Perry.

Cory-Rawson 42, Van Buren 0

RAWSON — Cory-Rawson improved its chance for postseason play with a whitewashing of Van Buren. John Anderson had four touchdowns for the Hornets (7-3, 7-2 Blanchard Valley Conference).

Anderson rushed for 151 yards on just 13 carries, scoring on rushes of 33 and 65 yards. With Ben Niese adding 112 rushing yards, C-R had 307 yards on the ground.

Hornets quarterback Tyler Harris completed 5-of-9 passes for 74 yards, including two TDs to Anderson.

Upper Scioto Valley 54, Fostoria St. Wendelin 6

FOSTORIA — Upper Scioto Valley (6-4, 4-3 NWCC) gained 571 yards of total offense against Fostoria St. Wendelin, which finished the season winless.

Rhys Rose passed for 229 yards and three touchdowns for USV. Rose threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Steven LaRue and touchdown passes of 19 and 43 yards to Colby Salyer.

Rose led USV’s running attack with 174 yards, 66 of those coming on a scramble in the first quarter. Salyer had 95 yards on the ground, including two touchdown runs.

Defiance 42, Bath 6

DEFIANCE — Aaron Swanson chewed up the Wildcats, gaining 282 rushing yards and three TDs, two covering 116 yards. Defiance (5-5, 5-4 WBL) had 359 rushing yards, holding Bath (2-8, 1-8) to just 50 yards on the ground.

The Wildcats had 61 total yards. Matt Hefner had 61 rushing yards.

Kenton 24, St. Marys 8

KENTON — Kenton looks to improve its playoff standing with the win over Division III St. Marys. The Wildcats (9-1, 9-0 WBL) scored 18 points in the third quarter, two passes from Maty Mauk and a run from the quarterback.

Mauk finished with 410 passing yards, completing 32-of-44, and 82 rushing yards. Max Morrison had 12 catches for 220 yards.

Coldwater 47, New Bremen 6

COLDWATER — The Cavaliers enter the postseason on a roll, the latest an easy win over New Bremen. Coldwater held a 47-0 halftime lead.

Keith Wenning completed 9-of-13 passes for 123 yards and a pair of scores, adding 46 yards on the ground.

Aaron Rammel had two scores for Coldwater (9-1, 7-1 MAC).

Ottawa-Glandorf 49, Celina 12

CELINA — Ottawa-Glandorf quarterback Nathan Kahle rushed for 112 yards and passed for 119 as the Titans keep rolling into the playoffs. Kahle scored on an 89-yard rush in the first quarter as O-G (8-2, 7-2 WBL) built a 27-6 lead after the quarter.

Titans running back Brandon Kuhlman had 185 yards on 22 carries.

Celina (1-9, 1-8) gained only 120 rushing yards.

Leipsic 27, Liberty-Benton 21

LEIPSIC — With the Blanchard Valley Conference already in its pocket, Leipsic made sure there were no doubts with the win. The Vikings finish 9-0 in the conference and 9-1 overall.

Leipsic came up with four turnovers, two picks and two fumbles. The Vikings scored on two, a fumble recovery by Brady Schroeder and an 18-yard interception return for Derek Mangas.

The Vikings gave up 312 rushing yards.

Waynesfield-Goshen 25, Fairbanks 14

MILFORD CENTER — Waynesfield-Goshen chalked up the Northwest Central Conference title, and possibly improved their playoff lot, with the victory. It was the Tigers’ first win over Fairbanks in the last three meetings.

Ryan Spencer led the Tigers (9-1, 7-0 NWCC) with 153 rushing yards, including a 64-yard TD rush.

All the points were scored in the first half.

Marion Local 28, Anna 21

MARIA STEIN — Marion Local came back from an early deficit, and held on for a possible playoff-securing win. The Flyers are 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the MAC, but they’re almost assured of playing next week.

Jarren Griesdorn of Marion Local completed just one pass, but it was a 24-yard TD to Adam Schulze in the second quarter. Niles Keller rushed for 236 yards and two TDs for the Flyers.

The Rockets are 8-2, 6-2.

McComb 41, Pandora-Gilboa 13

McCOMB — With a playoff berth staring it in the face, Pandora-Gilboa couldn’t get the job done against McComb. The Rockets had three turnovers and allowed 267 rushing yards.

Pandora-Gilboa (6-4, 5-4 BVC) totaled just 156 yards, 74 coming on 13 carries by Nate Lee.

Lee gave the game its first points when he returned a fumble 53 yards. After that, McComb scored 21 straight points.
